Two Workshops in May

I just had to talk about what’s happening in May this year.

On 7th May we are very lucky to have Guillermo Torrens and Maria Maragaki joining us to run a workshop at the practica.  Guillermo and Maria have been in Derby before, when Johana Pantera organised the Derby Festival in November 2014 which took place at the Waterfall; so some of you may already know them. If you are on Facebook you can also visit their page TangoUnlimited for more information.

And on 21 May we welcome the return of Pablo Nievas to run a workshop.  It’s about a year since he was last with us so we are really looking forward to see him arrive in Derby.  I am sure many of you will remember Pablo from the workshops he ran for the Derby Practica last year.  You can also follow his journey around the UK on Facebook .

Both events are taking place at the usual times (3.30 to 6.30 pm) at Spondon Village Hall, DE21 7FG.  Workshop followed by the practica at approximately 5.00 pm.  Plenty of free parking at the rear of the hall.

May is going to be a very busy month for us; organising travel arrangements, accommodation and everything that comes with planning the workshops but it’s great fun and we get to meet some lovely people.

Both Guillermo and Pablo are available for private lessons when they are with us so if you are interested please email If you are on Facebook you can message us or join the group Tango in Derby to keep informed about what’s happening in Derby.

Nas & I are really looking forward to next month – so come along and join us for two great afternoons dancing tango – it doesn’t matter where you are on your tango journey you will be made very welcome.  Don’t forget Tango is a social dance so you don’t need a partner to join us.  You really can’t do too much tango practise!!

Jeronimo and Donatta in Derby – April

I thought I’d write a short blog about what’s happening in Derby in April because we have some exciting events happening this year.

We are very lucky to have Jeronimo and Donatta visiting us again and they are going to join us at the Derby Pratica on 2 April to run a workshop.  The workshop will start at 3.30 pm for approx one hour followed by the practise session until 6.30 pm.

As usual we will be at Spondon Village Hall which has plenty  of free parking to the rear.

We supply tea, coffee and soft drinks but if you wish you can bring a cake or something to share with others.

Jeronimo and Donatta will also be in Leicester at the University (Wilson Building) on Saturday, 1 April to run a workshop for their practica.  Get in touch for more details.

Private lessons are available for £50 per hour during Saturday and Sunday and will take place in Leicester and Spondon. If you are interested then complete the contact form below.

We have some more exciting events happening during May this year so keep an eye on the FaceBook Page or join the group Tango in Derby to ensure you don’t miss out.

Derby Practica in Spondon

It’s been a long time since I had time to add to this blog; I’ve been very busy with Nas organising events and doing a bit of DJing!!

It’s now been nearly a year since we moved to Spondon Village Hall and it’s proved to be a great success.  The hall has a fabulous wooden floor and is a really good size; the practicas have gone from strength to strength with approximately 30 people joining us at each event.

Usually on the first Sunday of the month we run a workshop on a variety of topics – the instructors vary but we make sure we provide value for money for the group.  Our regular teachers, Pauline and Geoff Hudson (Tango Stafford), have been a great source of information throughout 2016 but at the moment they are off doing other things.

Donnata and Jeronimo joined us again from Spain during the Christmas period and ran a fabulous workshop for us; and also gave some private lessons.  We hope to invite them to return during the Summer period – watch this space!!

A video of their dancing can be seen here  on Face Bookdonna-and-jeronemo-pic

The Derby Practicas are held twice a month; always the first and third Sunday of every Month.

Usual Music Style

  • First Sunday – mainly Golden Age
  • Third Sunday  – Nuevo, Neo and nontraditional (Provided by Andy)

Something for all music tastes – as usual people bring nibbles to share with everyone so there’s always a good feast!!

We welcome new people no matter where you are on your tango journey – come along and practise what you’ve learned in your regular lessons – there’s always something new to learn!!  And you don’t need to bring a partner with you x

Moving! The Derby Practica is Moving

The Chester Green (Derby) Practica is moving to Spondon Village Hall, Sitwell St, Spondon, Derby DE21 7FG and the first event will take place on 15th May 2016.

We are also very pleased to welcome Pablo Nievas once again to run a workshop for us on this date.  Numbers are limited so people need to contact me on or complete the form below to book a place:

The venue has a lovely wooden dance floor, it’s a much larger room and has plenty of free parking to the rear.

Come and join us for a great fun afternoon dancing, chatting, eating cakes and generally have a great time – it doesn’t matter where you are on your Tango journey, just come along and practise.

Chester Green (Derby) Practica

The Green Tea Practica has now changed its name to Chester Green (Derby) Practica” .  Cidinha and Njaal have passed on the mantel to Nas and I so we have changed the name of this regular event.

We are still at the same venue (Chester Green Community Centre) and the practica will continue to be held on the first and third Sunday of each month, but with a  new start time from January 2016 – 4.00 to 7.00 pm.  So nothing has really changed.

The first practica under the new name will be held on 1 November when we have a guest who has offered to provide the music; this will be a great change for everyone.

There will also be a surprise for you but we’ll let you know more about this very soon……………

Nas and I look forward to the first practica under the new name on Sunday, 1 November – see you all there x
